Well here we have it... a big honkin chicken.

This is an interesting piece actually...

I like it... but don't.

Technically, there's little wrong with it (at least compared to my other pieces). He fits fairly well with the reference shots, and it's a sound piece.

The problem is, it only 'half-way' works in my opinion.
The standard simple straight on pose just doesn't convey the funkyness of this chicken. I mean, this is an 8 foot tall chicken... there should be comedy here!!

I tried to put in a little bit of levity (rubber chicken, baby chick), but I'm not sure it's working. Heck, at one point I even added a road in the BG (as in, why did the...).

I came to realize, it's the stance.

To pull off a humourous pic, I'd have to mess around with the perspective and pose (more much cartooney).

Ah well, live and learn.

I see what you mean and kudos because it's not easy to spot why something works or not in one owns pictures. The en face makes the rather complex head hard to read, I think it would add to clarity and funniness if he was looking intently sideways and down at the rubber chicken. Also as you mentioned the stance; it's very powerful. If the legs went 'backwards' a bit more like a chicken's it would read more 'creature'.

Anyways, what counts is what the chick... eh client thinks :D

I love it. I love your commentary more! LOL

An overly exaggerated pose, ala IMAGE COMICS-esque would have worked I think to communicate the tongue-in-cheek humor without compromising the integrity of the chicken-man! :D I think you shoulda kept the road too...but that's me....and I love laughing :)

Looks good to me! Maybe if there was a normal size person there for scale. Some unfortunate person being beaten by a rubber chicken, perhaps?

It's still a good piece, without the reference of how big the chicken is, but yeah, I think the road kept in would've added to the piece's funny-ness, and a regular person, to show how freakin big this big honkin chicken is. IMO I think it woulda been pretty funny to see a known villain, like Recluse or any one of his 4 lieutenants looking up half scared of this huge chicken woulda been perfect.

But like someone else said, as long as the client who the piece is for likes it, it's all good!
