Black Panther - manvswild by Juggertha Black Panther - manvswild by Juggertha
Done up for a monthly challenge over on PJ, the topic was 'Man vs Wild'. I'm hoping that Black Panther captured that (and the rhino).

Any additional advice for this (other than re-doing it) would be appreciated. I have until the 22nd to submit it.

Good work Juggy!

As for my advise:

1. More speedlines at the bg. But take note not to over do it to retain the tones you would like to achieve here.

2. Additional "dusty particles" in the foreground or below to suggest more movement of the clash.

3. The eye pupils seems to look at somehere, Im not sure. But perhaps you can make the eye pupils contact with the rhino.

4. As for "Avengers" Text title, just add some action lines suggesting it ws broked or was move by the rhino.other than that it looks good anyway.

5. Black panther's color needs a little more contrast like a slighty 2percent darker from the rhino's skin tone. I know how your style goes but here's hoping it will not be distracted by my suggestions.:)

For now, that would be my 2 cents, hope that helps you out.^__^

goodluck

I agree with the readability issues that were brought up above. I just handed in my final Digital Typography project last night, and I can almost hear my teacher's voice lecturing on readability when looking at the logo and title!

My input is that something is not jiving for me between Black Panther and the rhino. I think some of it has to do with how he's clutching the ears. His hands look like they're making barely any contact on them, but he should be having a deathgrip. The ears aren't bent around enough and/or I don't see the strain in his arms to hold on. Your focal point should be this area of the head and Black Panther, but I'm getting more sense of motion and tension from your outlying areas.

Love the artwork! I do think the broken logo needs a retool... i don't like how the outline of the letters fades into space (a byproduct of the perceptive tool). See if you can do something to keep the line width of the letters and corner graphic a little more consistent. It might be an improvement.

And yeah, Man vs Wild needs to be brought out more, but other than that, I absolutely love this piece! Good luck in the contest!

I'm not an artist or critic really, so if you don't understand what I'm getting at/saying then ignore it.

To be honest his eyes seem odd, awkward if you will. I think he looks more fearful than determined to bring it down. If that's the look you were going for you nailed it, but I always figured Panther as one of those guys who, no matter the fight, would show more grit and determination than anything else.

I'm not sure exactly why it strikes me this way, it just does.... like I said I'm not an artist or art critic..

I think this is one of your best figures ever. He's got a great sense of musculature, and the rhino looks like a rhino.

One thing you might be able to try: The entire image is a bit washed out due to the lightburst effect. If you've got it on a separate overlay, see if you can erase some of the rhino, so the head and Black Panther are less pushed into the mid- and background.

It might give more feeling of depth to the charge!

I admit I like the broken logo also, but it was also the first thing I looked at and caught my attention first. It's a hard call, but I like that it says the cover is exploding with the characters.

Love the broken logo, but i agree it could be a little easier to read. A little more info in the a background never hurt either.
So basically what those other guys said.

don't change anything about the main figures though they look perfect. The rhino particularly looks well researched.

the image is fine, but from a graphic design standpoint, I'd leave the avengers logo and marvel label standard I don't feel the logo being pushed by the rhino is working, it's just making avengers harder to read and distracting from the picture itself. the man vs. wild is hard to read and perhaps too large I'd make it white (or the aged white/cream you've used) with a brown stroke and a bit smaller, placing it more to the right, near BP's knee cap. the English world reads left to right, so having it in that left corner is making it too much work for a reader to both look at and make out because of the degree of fade. You have to assume a reader is the laziest bastard on the planet when placing type in anything, if its too hard to read they will piss off and find something simpler. the only other thing to mention is you should add a bar code for that true mock cover feel. It's cool to see you trying different things with the type but you have to remember that types main purpose is delivering information, if it can't be read its just a static element.

other then that the image is good you've done a good job of making the rhino and BP feel in motion with the action lines, I like the dirty color pallete, makes you feel like the rhino is keeping dust up everywhere.

hope that helps and good luck with the comp Ed!
