The Best Movies of 2009

Journal Entry: Thu Dec 31, 2009, 10:48 PM

I've seen about 60+ movies this year (going by my FB reviews), and so I figured I'd share my top 5 here. Feel free to put up yours as well - maybe we'll find something new.

#5 - Hulk vs - Screw the Wolverine movie. If you want to see some heroes in action, then THIS is the set to watch.

#4 - The Cove - I'm a big fan of eating meat. I know where it comes from, and rarely have a problem with it. That being said, this movie reminded me of why I don't eat endangered animals.

#3 - Dear Zachary - Officially released in 2008. The DVD, and its fame, didn't really come until this year. You NEED to see this.

#2 - Star Trek - Finally a ST movie I can dig - it's been too long. This is hopefully the launch of a great new series.

#1 - Avatar - The story was alright, but the 3D blew my mind. I felt like I was watching my first movie ever. This is groundbreaking.

Beyond those though, there were a few that I thought were pretty decent; Precious, Tyson, I love you man, 9, Zombieland, Let the right one in, and GI JOE.

The ones that totally disappointed me were; Transformers 2, Terminator, 2012, Watchmen, and The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Getting feedback on art

Journal Entry: Thu Dec 31, 2009, 4:38 AM

I just wanted to drop a quick note to everyone who swings by and comments on my art. A big thanks to all who take the time to give me some thoughts on how to improve my stuff. I may not always take your advice, but I'm glad ya gave it.

One place I often head to for art help is the PencilJack forums - [link]
They have a nice community there and the people take the time to help you when you need it. Be sure to sign up there and post up some of your work.

Also of note, they have a 'challenge section' [link] where people do battle in a PUMMEL contest. So far, my track record is not the greatest, but at least I'm learning.

Here are some of my pieces from the monthly challenges.

And a few from some street fights.

You can see my humbling record here - [link];postcount=86/

Be sure to stop by and join up on the forums - they're a blast.

Best shows of the 00's

Journal Entry: Sat Nov 28, 2009, 4:15 AM

So, many people have made "best shows of the 80's" and "best shows of the 90's" lists... well, I figured I'd make a "best shows of the 00's".

Below, in no particular order, are my top 10 tv series from 2000 to 2009.

Enjoy, and share your opinions as well.

Supernatural - Sure, the Angel/Demon thing seems kind of lame, but through it all, those Winchester boys have kept their cool, and their sense of huor.

ROME - Perhaps the best series to ever grace thesmall screen, ROME should be mandatory viewing in all high schools - both for history and sex ed.

How I met your Mother - This series continues to make me laugh, while all the while making my respect for Barney grow.

The Spectacular Spiderman - An artist here on DA (Cheeks) did the concepts for this series, and it's one of the funnest animations I've watched in a long time.

Dexter - Never thought I'd root for a serial killer, but Dexter is one cool guy. That being said htough, I really hope they catching him one time.

Freaks and Geeks - No idea why they cancelled this show. Someone needs to be fired.

Firefly - Again, the people at the networks have their collective heads up their butts. This was a great spin on a space show.

Heroes - Finally, a series that made superheroes cool. Too bad they've dropped it on its head so many times.

Deadwood - Not always a fan of westerns, but this one had me coming back for every episode.

CSI-Las Vegas - No, not Miami (hate Curuso and his sunglasses). This is the original and the best. I don't think I've ever watched a bad episode.

Dear Zachary

Journal Entry: Fri Nov 6, 2009, 6:57 AM

Rarely do I write a journal about a single movie. Most of the time, I might make up a top 10 list of summer movies... or something like that. But this movie that I just saw has me in such a state, that I have to share it.

Dear Zachary: A Letter To A Son About His Father [link] is a movie that will blow your mind. I'm not sure if you have access to it (rental, download, or whatever), but you need to watch it.

I'm going to do something odd in a movie review, and not tell you a single thing about this movie. I knew nothing about this movie before I watched it, and I think that's the best way to see it. Just be prepared to feel nearly every emotion there is.

And then do something about it.

November JAM - Black Superheroes CLOSED

Journal Entry: Mon Nov 30, 2009, 5:27 PM

Wow, dozens of entries for this month's JAM. I am very impressed with you all. A couple of people tried to slide some old work in, but 99% of ya created some amazing new art.

Good on ya, and thanks.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Underated and underexplored, black superheroes took years to hit mainstream, and even when they did, they often stayed on as back up characters.

This month, I'd like to put a JAM together showing off some art for these heroes.

Rules:
-All entries must be new (this month)
-Established characters or Orginal creations are fine
-Although this is 'race based' (a very loose term here), let's keep the hate out of it.
-All entries must be your own creations unless otherwise noted.
-All entries should be linked to this thread no later than November 30th.

Can ya dig it?
